Who should join:
Junior Golfers ages 8 through 16 who want to make a significant investment with their time to improve their golf skills.
Junior Golfers should:
Have a strong interest in golf.
Able to interact with minimal supervision for up to ninety minutes.
Junior Academy FAQ
How young do you accept kids into the Academy?
Generally, eight years and older. I have had some younger than eight years of age and if a parent feels a child can learn and assimilate with limited supervision I am open to giving it a try.
Do you have different age groups?
On Saturdays, we have three separate classes. Elementary age ,Junior High and High School. On days where we play the course, I try to pair kids according to their age and skill level.
When do you practice or play?
We practice our fundamentals each Saturday at Valley Oaks Golf Course. We also play each week at Valley Oaks. The day of the week we play the course changes throughout the year. Summer months we play a weekday morning, Fall we play Friday afternoons, Winter and Spring we play Sunday afternoons. We also travel to various regional golf courses , Ie. Monterey, Central Coast, Fresno. On those trips, parents are invited to play as well.
How advanced of a skill level does a junior have to be?
The Academy embraces kids of all skill levels, an interest in golf is the only requirement.
How much does it cost?
Tuition each month (October 2025) is $150 per month which covers range balls and coaching. There is also a discounted 5.00 green fee (Youth on Course members) for each time we play the course. Kids are encouraged to join Youth on Course. ( www.ncga.org)
Is there a commitment required?
To promote a consistent learning experience, a six-month commitment is requested. An initial one-month trial is available. If a family has an issue that makes it difficult for the child to finish his six months, please speak to Tom.
